Our Founder
David Feikes, Ph. D.
Professor of Mathematics
David Feikes teaches mathematics courses for elementary teachers, intermediate and college algebra. He works with local schools and with schools in Belize providing professional development for teachers and activities for students to learn mathematics.
He also developed the Conceptual Algebra Readiness for Everyone (CARE) project, Math Recovery Project, Thinking With Algebra (TWA), and College Algebra Project (CAP). These projects have been funded by state and National Science Foundation grants.
He also teaches mathematics once every two weeks to the residents of Sharing Meadows, a residential facility for adults with intellectual disabilities.

Martin Briggs has taught for 47 years in the La Porte Community School Corporation, teaching third, fourth, and fifth grades. He currently teaches fourth grade at F.W. Crichfield Elementary School in La Porte, Indiana. Briggs earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Anderson College, Anderson, IN, in 1978 and a Master of Science in Education from Purdue University North Central in 1983.

Andrew Feikes is a Board Member at Shepherd’s Work and works in sales at a tech company. He’s passionate about helping others and draws on his past experiences working with individuals with special needs. Andrew and his wife, Megan, are active in their church community and lead a Bible study together.

Bill Harmon, Executive Director of the SHARE Foundation of La Porte, IN is honored to join the Board of Shepherd’s Work. With more than a decade of service in Christian‑based nonprofit work supporting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, he brings a deep commitment to mission‑driven care and community. Bill is excited to contribute his experience to help advance the vision of his friend and mentor, Dr. Dave Feikes, and to support the meaningful work being done for the people of Belize.

Christy Livergood works with special needs students in grades K-12 as an educational diagnostician. She has previously taught elementary students and been a college academic advisor. Christy is passionate about advocating for student mental health. Christy also loves to travel and looks forward to many trips to Belize with The Shepherd’s Work.

Charito Sofia Sierra has been a primary school teacher in Belize for 17 years. Charito lives in Benque Viejo del Carmen.

Maddie has been learning from Dr. Feikes since taking math methods courses from him at PNC beginning in 2013. She always admired his personality, his love for teaching and learning, and his tremendous heart. She is thrilled to be supporting his journey and work with The Shepherd's Work. Maddie works full-time as an instructional coach, and to spend any free time with her family and her new baby girl.
